Joan Smith Rides Again
Maybe she left a silver bullet.

My wish to be back in the saddle again, after 60
years has been fulfilled. Nov. 17, 2007 will
live in infinity for me.

After two hours riding the trails through the woods
on a beautiful fall day in Florida, I slid down
off my gallant steed.

OMG

I didn’t think the two things you call legs were
going to support me or even if they were
there! I was so bow legged a cow could have
run between them. I was wishing I had roller
skates on and someone could just push me
where I needed to go. John Wayne had
nothing on me. My spine felt so compressed I
must have lost 2 inches in height.

The Toyota designer doesn’t have a brain in his
head. He never put swivel divers seats in my
car. I’ll probably walk like all the cowboys in
the movies the rest of my life. I’ll probably
never zip around like I normally do. I don’t
think my sit-upon will ever be sit-able again.
It must be totally black and blue.

All in all I loved ever minute of it until I had to get
off. Will I do it again? Probably, I’m just
dumb enough to forget the results. But I
think someone better call the White Coats if I
say I’m going too.
